I was commissioned by Brent Council to design and paint a series of concrete seating blocks on Church Road in Brent, North West London.
The colourful geometric graphic patterns are inspired by some of the shapes and forms found in traditional Somali Alool weaving, a subtle way of celebrating and connecting to the culture of the local Somali community in the area. The colour palette for the designs also takes inspiration from some of the nearby shop fronts along the road.
It was a huge pleasure to spend time on Church Road installing these paintings on the 13 cubes. I was welcomed by the community and the conversations with local people were friendly and positive.
